Mitsui Outlet Park Yokohama Bayside

Uminokōen

Uminokōen is a sandy, man-made beach where people come to swim and sunbathe. It extends for almost a kilometer. Behind the beach there is a broad grassy strip for jogging or walking. Families can feel secure, knowing that their small children can play safely. Digging for clams and using the barbeque facilities are other enjoyable activities.

Access:Take the Seaside line, get off at Uminokōen-Shibaguchi Station or Uminokōen-Minamiguchi Station, and you are there.

Shomyo-ji Temple

Shomyo-ji was founded during the Kamakura period and belongs to the Shingon Ritsu sect of Buddhism. It is the ancestral temple of the Kanesawa Hojo family. Its ancient Jodo-style garden with two vermillion bridges, one flat and the other arched, is beautiful. Within the temple grounds it is a pleasure to view the scenery as it changes from season to season. In the spring the cherry trees are in full bloom and make a tunnel along the approach from the red gate to the temple. Crowds of people gather to view the cherry blossoms.

Nojima-kōen

A park where you can enjoy the open exercise space, the baseball fields, the campground, and the barbeque and other facilities. Nojima, which is known for Hiroshige’s picture, “Evening Glow at Nojima,” is an island that floats in Hiragata Bay. On a clear day the faraway Tanzawa Range, Mt. Fuji and the Boso Peninsula can be seen from the observation tower on top of the hill.

Kanagawa Prefectural Kanazawa Bunko Museum

This is a library created by Sanetoki Hojo, a warrior that was important during the Kamakura period. Today it is a museum that contains many books and valuable objects that are related to the Kamakura period. The display of art objects, ancient documents and other items includes designated national treasures. The museum is adjacent to the grounds of Shomyo-ji Temple.
